MEMBERS: Thomas Bangalter, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo
BIOGRAPHY: The now world-renowned French house duo Daft Punk has seen great success with their unique style of burning house music that is just varied enough to make repetition in music cool. Deriving their name from an early review that described their initial output of music as "daft punk", the pair consisting of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo have since delivered several waves of successful hits and three relatively popular albums. Their first album, "Homework", was released in 1997, and from it spawned several of Daft Punk's most well-known hits, including the infectious "Around The World" and the legendary "Da Funk" whose video followed a canine man as he traveled the late night streets of New York City. It wasn't until very late in 2000, however, when they would release perhaps their most popular track of all: "One More Time", which turned into an amazing dancefloor sensation (which it still is to this very day). The more disco-based "Discovery" was released that same year, with positive sales results. Their third album, 2005's "Human After All", was composed and completed in a mere six weeks; this short amount of time is well-reflected in the music, as it is more gritty and down to the bare basics. It was subject to a great mix of criticisms, both positive and negative. Still, Daft Punk likely has many more surprised up their sleeve in the future... |
